Leiden has many districts, one of which is the Merenwijk. Our school is in the Merenwijk. The Merenwijk is the most northern district of Leiden.



The city center of Leiden is old. Here are all the shops and there are café’s where you can get a drink. Every Wednesday and Saturday  is the central market.


In the past Leiden only existed within the ‘singels’, the outer canals. That is what we now call the city center. As more and more people arrived it became too small and new sections were built all around it.
Leiden has a few old neighborhoods, like the city center, the “Morskwartier” and “De Kooij”. The newer neighborhoods are the Stevenshof and Leiden South-West. Even now new districts are built, such as Poelgeest and Nieuw Leiden.
