City hall of Leiden

On right you see the City Hall of Leiden. It has de largest front in Holland in the Renaissance style. It was built in 1594 and was meant to be impressive and a symbol of the new era of peace.



The famous architect Lieven de Key was advisor and famous Dutch painters have made paintings and glass windows.

After the big fire of 1929 only the front remained. The new city hall was rebuilt with special attention to the inside, with works of, for example, the famous Escher.
