The Merenwijk is still a young quarter. It has been built a short time ago. The construction began in 1971. For that the quarter has been polder-land. The Merenwijk has received his name, because the quarter is nearby the Kagerplassen (lakes). The architects of the Merenwijk name the big streets after the lakes in the Netherlands. An example is: IJsselmeerlane. The Merenwijk has his own shoppingmall, that is called: The 'Kopermolen'.
